European Trademark and Design Renewals
Renewing your European Union Trade Mark (EUTM) or Registered EU Design (REUD) is essential to ensure uninterrupted protection of your intellectual property rights across the EU. Below is a clear overview of the renewal process, timelines, fees, and how to avoid common pitfalls.

EUTM Renewal Overview
Validity: An EUTM is valid for 10 years from the registration date and can be renewed indefinitely in 10-year periods.
Renewal Window: Starts 6 months before the expiry date. Late renewal is possible up to 6 months after expiry with a 25% surcharge.
How to Renew: Use the EUIPO’s online renewal form for the fastest and cheapest process.
Fees: €850 for one class, €50 for the second, €150 for each class thereafter. Paper filings cost €1,000 minimum.
Partial Renewal: You can drop classes but cannot add new ones or modify the trademark.
Missed Renewal Deadline?
You still have 6 months post-expiry to file a renewal with a 25% penalty.
No action after this grace period results in removal from the Register and loss of rights.
Conversion Alternative Not renewing but want national protection? File a conversion request within 3 months of the end of the renewal grace period.
REUD Renewal Overview
Validity: Each REUD is valid for 5 years and renewable in 5-year blocks up to 25 years total.
When to Renew: Within the 6 months before expiry. Late renewal possible for 6 months after expiry month, with a 25% fee.
Renewal Method: Use the online form. Renewal is confirmed in writing and published in the EUD Bulletin.
